Global Gate · Kimuka, Kajiado County

Kenya's first data centre, powered by the sun.

Global Gate is the first data centre in Kenya to draw its power directly from a dedicated 40 MWp solar PV plant — a Uptime Tier III facility and its solar farm sharing one campus, one islanded microgrid, one promise: uninterrupted, clean, sovereign compute.

01The Facility

A Tier III machine, built for 24/7.

A 1,920 m² clear-span white space, 2N power from the 11 kV board to dual-corded racks, N+1 cooling with hot-aisle containment — engineered so any component can be maintained while your workloads never notice.

The sun sets. The compute doesn't.

At dusk, the 80 MWh battery plant takes the night shift — carrying the full facility for 12.9+ hours, longer than the longest equatorial night, until the array returns at dawn.

03The Energy Plant

The 40 MWp plant that feeds it.

Bifacial TOPCon modules on fixed-tilt tables feed the facility directly through an 11 kV collection ring. Midday surplus charges the battery; the microgrid runs islanded and zero-export — the data centre and the solar plant are one machine.

06:00

Dawn ramp

The array wakes; PV takes over from the battery and shapes the morning ramp.

09:00–16:00

Midday surplus

PV serves the 6.2 MW facility directly and recharges the BESS to 95% SOC.

17:30

Dusk handover

Seamless transition — the grid-forming battery assumes the full load.

04Why It Matters

The first of its kind in Kenya.

i.

Energy sovereignty

Islanded from grid instability by design. The microgrid forms its own 50 Hz reference — no utility outage has ever been part of our availability case.

ii.

Sun-to-server, clean

≈ 29,000 tonnes of CO₂e avoided every year. Every rack-watt is metered from the 33 kV PCC to the PDU, and reported daily.

iii.

A blueprint for Africa

LD-backed yield and availability guarantees, robotic panel cleaning, and Kenyan engineers trained to run it — a bankable model for the continent's next decade of compute.

05The Company Behind The Campus

Mopany: the discipline of secure movement.

Before the first panel was driven, Mopany built its name on moving what matters — 24/7 secure logistics across Kenya, with tamper-proof GSM-enabled boxes and a zero-tolerance integrity guarantee. Global Gate applies that same discipline to electrons and uptime.

"Goods are never touched in transit."
